DLA is made up of two parts-
The Care component and
The Mobility component
The care component is paid at three rates depending on the amount of help that you need-
Lower rate is paid at £17.75 per week
Middle rate is paid at £44.85 per week
Higher rate is paid at £67.00 per week
The mobility component is paid at two rates depending on the nature and severity of your disability-
Lower rate is paid at £17.75 per week
Higher rate is paid at £46.75 per week
Attendance Allowance is paid at two rates depending on the amount of help that you need-
Lower rate is paid at £44.85 per week
Higher rate is paid at £67.00 per week
Disability Living Allowance and Attendance Allowance are both tax free.
Disability Living Allowance is aimed at people who need help looking after themselves and at people who find it difficult to walk and get around.
Attendance Allowance is aimed at people over the age of 65 who need help looking after themselves, there is no mobility component for attendance allowance.
Neither of these benefits are means tested, they are paid regardless of any other income or savings that you may have.

Disability Living Allowance is paid to people who are terminally ill- we provide some guidance on the site but don't provide a self-assessment facility.

There are special arrangements for some people who dialyse at home.
Disability Living Allowance is usually paid every four weeks, either directly into your bank or building society account or by order book which you can cash every four weeks at the post office.
People who are terminally ill are paid weekly.
Attendance Allowance is paid either every four weeks into your account or by weekly order book which you can cash at the post office.
