In order to qualify for Incapacity Benefit in Youth (IB(Y)) you need to be able to demonstrate that
you have been ordinarily resident and present in Great Britain for more than 26 weeks
in the past year.
You will not be awarded IB(Y) if you are subject to immigration control
The following exemptions allow you to be awarded IB(Y) even if you are subject to immigration control:
- You are the family member of a European Economic Area National;
- You or a member of your family with whom you are living are a national of Morocco,
Algeria, Tunisia or Turkey and are lawfully working (or have lawfully worked) in Great Britain;
- You are a sponsored immigrant ie you are the subject of a mantenance undertaking whereby someone has agreed
to be responsible for your maintenance and accommodation in the UK.
