If you suspect that you or someone you know is having a heart attack, you must dial 999 immediately. Do not wait.
The most common symptoms of a heart attack are:
- crushing central chest pain or mild chest discomfort;
- discomfort, pressure, or heaviness in the chest, arm, or below the breastbone;
- shortness of breath;
- extreme weakness, anxiety;
- clammy, sweaty and grey complexion;
- dizziness;
- nausea and vomiting;
- fullness, indigestion or choking feeling (may feel like heartburn);
- restlessness;
- coughing;
- a general feeling of being unwell;
- a frightening sense that one is about to die;
- rapid or irregular heartbeats.
The pain associated with a heart attack often travels from the chest to the neck, jaw, ears, arms and wrists. Sometimes the pain travels between
the shoulder blades to the back or to the abdomen.
