Chapter 61 -Attendance Allowance and DLA care component - Definitions - Watching Over, Frequent Intervals, Prolonged.
Watching over
61161 “Watching over” should be given the ordinary dictionary meaning and should be distinguished from supervision. The person does not need to be actually looking at the disabled person for the whole of the time. It is enough that the person is awake for the purpose of watching over the disabled person for the necessary period or periods.
Frequent intervals.
61164 The frequent intervals need not be spread throughout the night, but can be concentrated in one part of the night.
Prolonged.
61165 “Prolonged” has been defined as “some little time”. The former AA Board suggested that 20 minutes could be considered a prolonged period within the context of care.
