-The upper age limit for applying for DLA is 65.
-There are special rules for children under the age of 16, please see our section on Children and DLA
-Your claim must be lodged with the DWP before your 65th birthday. If you are over 65 then you may be entitled to attendance allowance.
-There is no lower age limit for the care component of DLA although special rules apply to children and young people under the age of 16
-The lower age limit for the mobility component of DLA is five years this will be reduced to three in April 2001 for children with severe disabilities.
-The only exception to the upper age limit is those people who are switching from the pre-1976 invalid vehicle scheme to the higher rate of the DLA mobility component.
-If you are over 65 and already receive the care component of DLA then you can switch rates if your care needs change
-If you are over 65 and already recieve the mobility component of DLA then you cannot switch rates even if your care needs change.
-If you are over 65 and need to switch your care rate then you need to show that your care needs changed six months before making your claim.
