Carers' Allowance will not be paid if the applicant is also getting the same or more from:

This is the overlapping benefits rule. If you get less than the basic rate of Carers' Allowance (currently £53.10) from any of the above benefits then that benefit is made up to the basic rate.

This rule only applies to the basic rate of the above benefits. It does not apply to any earnings-related or age-related additions to the above benefits.

If your partner has been awarded a dependency addition for you from any of the above benefits then this will not be paid if you get the same amount or more from Carers' Allowance. If your Carers' Allowance is less than the dependency addition then you will receive Carers' Allowance and your partner will get the difference between the dependency addition and Carers' Allowance.

If you are awarded Carers' Allowance, you will not be given the adult dependant allowance if your partner gets one of the above benefits at £29.05 per week or more.

You can be entitled to both income support and Carers' Allowance, the amount of income support that you receive is reduced by the amount of your Carers' Allowance award.

Carers' Allowance is not affected by, nor does it affect, any payments made in respect of either Daily Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance.

If the person that you are caring for gets a severe disablement premium then this will stop once Carers' Allowance is awarded. The premium won't be lost if you are only awarded a carer premium instead of Carers' Allowance.
